Valentine’s Day has come and gone, and with that comes the annual unofficial shift from romantic deep winter colors to fresher, paler tints. Luckily in this awkward late-winter period, certain makeup products easily bridge the gap.

As I have mentioned before, I am not a wine drinker. A wine sniffer, a wine cooker, yes, but I just can’t appreciate a good wine as I should. This is not, however, the case for my mom. She is a huge fan of dry red wines, particularly Chianti. I deferred to her superior taste buds in naming my wine-colored lip and cheek tint (though, ironically, she is not particularly fond of this fragrance as it is too “fruity” for her).

Originally inspired by the Pantone Color of the Year 2015, Marsala, Chianti Lip & Cheek Tint is a rich “traditional” wine-berry color with a soft pale pink sheen. This obviously differs from Marsala’s more distinct brown-based wine shade. While easily applied opaque, Chianti can be sheered out for a lighter look.

I love Chianti’s color shift in different lighting!

As I’ve mentioned in previous lip and cheek tint profiles, the trick to getting the best and smoothest opacity is to warm the product slightly in your hand or pocket for about 5 minutes before application (I usually put the tube in my bra while I’m getting ready in the morning!). The effect is a rich, true-to-color, and intensely moisturizing experience.

Next week, we’ll take a look at red wine’s casual partner: pizza, or rather, Hawaiian Pizza Lip Balm. Also head back this Monday as I will have a brand-new recipe: Beer Cheese Soup!
